Black woman lauches bid for NJ governor The Associated Press PLAINFIELD, N.J. - A black woman is running as an independent for New Jersey governor. The Rev. Shannon Wright launched her bid days after stepping down as campaign manager for Republican Brian Levine. The Franklin Township mayor was thrown off the GOP primary ballot on Thursday after judges ruled Levine's nominating petition did not contain enough valid signatures. He's appealing. The 42-year-old Plainfield resident was a registered Democrat in 2008. To run as an independent. Wright must submit 1,000 petition signatures by June 2. She says health care, education and economic development will be her main campaign issues. Wright co-founded Faith, Grace and Mercy World Outreach Ministries with her husband. www.philly.com/philly/wires/ap/news/state/new_jersey/20090420_ap_blackwomanlauchesbidfornjgovernor.html
