I am indeed happy that you are taking an interest in your history. We all need to come to a point where we realize it's worth.

Let's think about it, others from all over the world knew it significance, and took it from us . Why not try to reclaim thhat which is ours?

Here is some intriguing mathematics info
on the Mayan calendar.
This is a mathematical analysis of the cycle of the "Tun", or transcendant of the calendar. Analysis reveals some numeric properties which shows that it's not some random concoction , but in fact decribes a complex and finely tuned process.

A general processed system of cycles where each cycle 20x shorter than the previous cycle. It tends asymptutially toward some point in time (2012) cycle period

The process has accerated in the last few decades. ie. Our year (0) is centered at the birth of Christ. We also use the Roman number 12 moon year that requires leap year. The Mayans calendar uses the more accurate 13 moon cycle. Also, the exact time of these days are 1999 and 2011. Activities on these days are not known.
